Selena Gomez Responds To Body Shamers With The Best Message

It was the first time Selena Gomez had been papped in a bikini since she underwent a life saving kidney transplant, so of course social media had something negative to say about her body.

But after photos of the 25-year-old boating on the Sydney Harbour surfaced online yesterday, she responded to the shamers with a seriously inspiring Instagram post.

“The beauty myth – an obsession with physical perfection that traps modern woman in an endless cycle of hopelessness, self consciousness, and self-hatred as she tries to fulfill society’s impossible definition of flawless beauty,” she wrote alongside a video montage of her day with friends.

“I chose to take care of myself because I want to, not to prove anything to anyone. Wind in her sails.”

The singer and actor, who has been open about her experience with lupus, has previously spoken about how her body has changed post-surgery.

“I have a bit of an obtrusion that will be there forever,” she told TODAY about her stomach.

“And that means I’m going to have to dress differently. It was really, really massive at first.”

But she’s always been a champion of body positivity.

“It was really hard in the beginning,” she said about her surgery scar in an interview with Billboard. “I remember looking at myself in the mirror completely naked and thinking about all the things that I used to bitch about and just asking, ‘Why?’”

“I don’t have perfect abs, but I feel like I’m wonderfully made,” she added.

And that’s a message we all need to remember.
