A-Rod Shares How He Lost 6.5 Lbs in 2 Days for Met Gala in Hilarious Video

As a former professional athlete, Jennifer Lopez’s fiancé Alex Rodriguez is no stranger to tough workouts and diets. Still, nothing could prepare him for the sacrifices he would have to make for fashion at the Met Gala 2019.

“I used to exercise for big games against the Red Sox. Now I exercise not to look fat at the Met Ball,” the retired New York Yankee said in a video on his YouTube channel that showed him prepping for the May 6 NYC event — the couple’s first red carpet since he put a $1.4 million rock on her hand.

“It’s Friday night, I’m really excited for this weekend, getting ready for the Met Ball. Saturday, Sunday, no carbs, no sugar,” he told the camera while sharing his Versace suit options. “I have to do yoga in the morning, yoga at night, go running in Central Park. Make sure I fit in this pink outfit. But anyway, I cannot wait for an hour after the Met Ball — we’re gonna go down to the ‘hood and have our best pizza. I cannot wait, I’m gonna eat an entire pizza.”

Rodriguez, 43, continued his hilarious commentary on his extreme diet and fitness regimen just hours before the event that Monday. “I have this crazy pink tuxedo that Jennifer and Versace’s making me wear. And I need to lose exactly 6 and a half pounds,” he told his camera crew while walking down a Manhattan sidewalk. “And I’m taking two yoga classes and I’m running the stairs for an hour, and I haven’t eaten in 24 hours. I did Sunday Night Baseball, I couldn’t even complete a sentence, I was so hungry. So I’m gonna do this yoga class. I wear size 48, tonight I’m wearing size 44. Is that good math? I don’t think so.”

While A-Rod spoke, he was wearing a special outfit to help him lose more water weight. “We’re two hours away from leaving our apartment [for the red carpet],” he said. “Of course you see this goofy suit I’m wearing. It’s to sweat, baby, sweat.”

After he left hot yoga, he confessed he still wasn’t sure he’d fit into the pink Versace suit jacket that would match JLo’s metallic Versace gown and beaded wig. “I’m gonna have to hold my stomach in all night. Now, I haven’t had steak in four days. That gets me really angry,” he said shared. “Obviously, I can’t eat. I’m gonna drink a lot of water and tea.”

Back in their apartment, he joked about the giant glam team helping his 49-year-old love get ready while he dressed himself and talked about how hungry he was. “There’s 69 people dressing her, I’m here by myself… They could fill up Yankee Stadium down there with so many stylists!”

And while the slugger ended up looking perfect enough for epic selfies in his outfit, he continued to express his endless admiration for Lopez. Of her metallic wig, he joked, “She has beautiful hair, what does she need a wig for? If she needs a wig, I need a mask.”
