There Are More Celebrities Drinking Celery Juice Than You Think
Get your blender and get juicing! By the time a wellness trend hits your Instagram feed, you can count on one thing: Healthy-minded celebrities have already tried it out. That’s certainly the case with the newest diet fad: drinking celery juice Opens a New Window. in the morning.
Ever since Anthony William, a.k.a., the Medical Medium — who counts Gwyneth Paltrow Opens a New Window. , Jenna Dewan Opens a New Window. , Robert De Niro Opens a New Window. , Liv Tyler Opens a New Window. , Novak Djokovic Opens a New Window. , Miranda Kerr Opens a New Window. and more stars and athletes as fans — touted the benefits of celery juice on his website and social media feeds, demand for the leafy green vegetable in liquid form has exploded.
Besides the Life-Changing Foods author’s advocates, plenty of other stars have offered celery juice testimonials. Whether you buy it from your favorite juicery (Kyle Richards Opens a New Window. says she gets hers at Holy Juice in L.A.), blend it up in your Vitamix or juice it in your juicer (note: blending the veggie lets the pulp remain, which contains filling fiber), the alleged benefits are enticing. Among the supposed health issues the one-ingredient elixir can help with: inflammation, psoriasis, digestion, energy, fatigue and immunity.
While sipping 16 ounces in the morning will certainly help you hydrate and the stalks contain Vitamins K and C, some nutritionists and dietitians aren’t convinced drinking the crudité platter staple does anything too special. As NYC-based registered dietitian Rachel Berman has told Us, the herb hasn’t been extensively studied yet, so the health claims are not proven. Says the General Manager of health site Verywell Opens a New Window. , “Anecdotally, people report better digestion and reduced bloating when drinking celery juice, but it may just be due to the fact that they’re getting an extra boost of hydration.” As of now, “There is some, but very limited, research on flavonoids in celery showing a reduction in inflammation in the body,” says Berman. “However, celery has not been as widely studied as other fruits and vegetables for its impact on health.”

“I just started a few days ago!” the Victoria’s Secret Angel told Us in February 2019 of drinking an a.m. celery juice. “All of my friends are like, ‘You’ll feel so good!’” Among those pals is fellow Angel Romee Strijd: “Romee has been doing it and a lot of my other friends here from home have been doing it and they’re just like, ‘We feel so good and alert!’ and everyone is talking about it, so I’m like, ‘I guess I have to try it!’”

She’s gone green! “Celery juice, definitely. Highly recommend,” the model told Us in February 2019. “Incredible benefits from taking care, cleaning your system to anti-aging. There’s a whole spectrum, but it’s a lot of cleaning your kidneys, right? And the thing is that the beauty really comes from within. If we have clean and balanced organs, it will show on our skin, in our mood, everywhere practically. So if it can take care of our gut and our inside, it will show on outside.” The Happy Heart Fund founder’s only regret? “I wish I can do it every day, but it’s hard with traveling.”

The Law & Order: SVU star is seeking juice justice. “I’ve been doing it for about five years now and someone saw me making it into my house and they’re like, ‘Oh, you’re part of this whole trend,’” he told Us in February 2019 of sipping celery juice every morning. “I guess in the last year it’s been, like, a real kind of prescription, right? But I’ve been doing it for a long time. It’s just one of those things that makes me feel great when you wake up.” Specifically, he added, “I just feel energized.”

The actress and wellness advocate let her Instagram followers know in January 2019 that she was testing out the celery lifestyle. “Bottoms up! @medicalmedium tells me celery juice first thing in the morning on an empty stomach for anti inflammation, healthy gut, immune boost goodness anyone else trying this too?” she captioned the picture. Dewan previously told Us that she only has juices for breakfast. “My one biggest tip I tell everyone is that years ago I stopped eating breakfast in the morning.” Instead, she makes “a big green smoothie… That really transformed my body, my skin and just my energy level throughout the day.”

Like others who suffer from the skin condition, the KKW beauty mogul will try just about anything to help her psoriasis: In January 2019, that included guzzling the green stuff. Not that she loves it. “Celery Juice. Pretty gross,” she wrote on an Instagram Story photo, “but saw that the @medicalmedium says it helps psoriaris soooo.”
