Ciara Recalls Doctor Telling Her to Put Mask on While in Labor: He 'Was Not Playing Any Games'

Ciara is reflecting on a "crazy" moment from the delivery of her third child.

The singer and husband Russell Wilson welcomed son Win Harrison, now 5 months, on July 23 during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, requiring Ciara, 35, to wear a face covering in the delivery room. For Self magazine's January cover story, Ciara remembers her doctor instructing her to put the mask in place during labor.

"My obstetrician, who's delivered all my babies, was not playing any games about this COVID. I literally made my first push with Win and then he was like, 'She needs a mask on. Get a mask on,' " she recalls. "It happened so fast, so I still had my mask [down]. But he was like, 'Oh, no, no. She gon' put that mask on.' "

"My mask was pretty good. I could still breathe alright through it, so that was good," she continues. "But it was like, 'Wow. This is crazy. I'm having to deliver a baby with a mask. What in the world?' "

Ciara — who's also mom to son Future Zahir, 6½, and daughter Sienna Princess, 3½ — also opens up about parenting life while in quarantine.

"I don't even know if you can call it organized chaos, but it is to some degree. Sometimes not even the most organized, to be honest," she says. "But I'm enjoying it all. I found my way to embrace it all. I just decided, hey, this is a unique time. It is a challenging time. And the world is changing. But rather than letting the world change me, I'm going to figure out how to change with it. That's been my mentality. How do I adjust? How do I really work and find the silver lining in the midst of it all?"

"In the beginning," she adds, "for us, it was really trying to wrap our heads around it. Just trying to understand all of it, trying to figure out how to balance life with the school and the Zoom sessions."

Ciara Says It Would Be 'Empowering' to Reach Pre-Baby Weight but Admits 'Your Body Does Change'

Aside from the mask, the "Goodies" singer told Access in September that her baby boy had a "smooth," "amazing" birth — with the added bonus of her husband behaving as a sort of jack-of-all-trades in the hospital room.

"He was like everything in one," Ciara praised the Seattle Seahawks quarterback, 32. "He was a cameraman, making sure the camera was set up right so we could get the angle when the baby comes out. And he actually helped pull Win out near the end, which was really sweet."

"So we got some memorable moments," she added at the time. "He [did skin-to-skin] with him. It was just very intimate and really full of love, more than anything. So I'm grateful for that."
