Kate Miller-Heidke Shares A Snap Of Herself In Hospital Just Days Before Eurovision
Kate Miller-Heidke is repping Australia in the upcoming Eurovision song contest, which is obviously epic news. The not-so-epic thing? She’s been badly injured during rehearsals – and has even been hospitalised because of it.
“DON’T PANIC! This was a few weeks ago,” she Tweeted last night, alongside a pic of herself in bed. “I came back from Europe with a very serious infection which can end in amputation or even death.”
The source of said infection? A blister on her foot: “Anyone who has worn them knows high heels can kill,” she quipped. “But I never took it literally.”
The blister was a direct result of spending 10 hours dancing on a cobblestone street while filming her Eurovision postcard (the pre-recorded video compilation that’s played before each act performs live on stage).
“I was stuck in this bed for the best part of a week (permitted only to limp to the toilet and back,)” she continued on Twitter.
Understandably, with the comp just days away, Kate’s not stoked with the setback.
“When I realised how serious it was I was pretty panicked and frankly, upset,” she said. “The last few months have been a whirlwind of activity. Every day was chockas with some kind of preparation. I was sprinting towards May, getting my ‘pop Olympics’ brain on and utterly unprepared to have all my plans derailed by such unexpected shitty luck.”
“The first couple of days in hospital passed in a blur of needles, pain killers and Netflix and tears (not a euphemism.) But then this strange sense of calm settled over me. I gave up trying to control everything. I had no choice. I just pressed ‘pause.’”
Thankfully, the 37-year-old is now on the mend – in the nick of time too.
“I’m mobile again now. In sneakers. The doctor ordered me to go to an orthopaedic shoe store. A ‘funky’ one,” she said.
“PS. For anyone interested, I was diagnosed with cellulitis resulting from an infected blister. It’s the exact same disease Hilary Swank got while training for Million-Dollar Baby so it’s definitely the most glamorous foot infection going around #eurovision.”
Sending all the get well vibes your way, Kate!
