Man’s lips turn BLACK because of ulcers triggered by a lung infection
Man develops BLACK blisters all over his lips because of a lung infection (and doctors say it also struck his eyes and penis)

- He developed black blisters on his lips because of his body’s overreaction
- The patient also had blisters in his eyes and urethra because of the illness
A man developed gruesome black blisters all over his lips because of an infection, doctors have revealed.
The unnamed patient went to A&E because he had a fever, cough and a rash on his skin, but the disturbing change to his mouth only happened three days later.
Blisters grew on the outside of both of his lips and turned black in a condition called mucositis, which also caused ulcers on his eyes and penis.
He had to be fed through a tube and given antibiotics for two weeks but made a full recovery and his lips returned to normal.

When the man arrived at the hospital he was examined and doctors found a crackling noise in his left lung.
He also had a rash on his hands and feet, including on the soles and palms, but it wasn’t itchy, said a case report in the New England Journal of Medicine.
A scan of his chest revealed he had a lung infection but, over the next three days, blisters sprung up around his mouth.
Blisters also developed around his eyes and on his urethra, but no pictures of those were published.
Medics tested the man for herpes but the results came back negative, and he was later found to be infected with a bacteria called Mycoplasma pneumoniae.
The bacteria can cause chest colds, sore throats, ear infections and pneumonia, and the ulcer’s on the patient’s mouth were the result of a hypersensitive reaction.
After two weeks of being fed through a tube and taking antibiotics the man made a full recovery of both his lung infection and the mucositis which caused the ulcers (pictured after the illness)
His mucositis was caused by damage to the fast-growing cells which make up the body’s mucous membranes – soft areas of tissue like those in the mouth, eyes and genitals.
The condition is a common side effect of chemotherapy because the cancer-fighting drugs destroy those cells as well as cancer cells.
Symptoms of mucositis include a dry mouth, bad breath, white patches, ulcers, or blood blisters inside the mouth, or a sore or painful mouth.
People with the condition are advised to keep their mouth clean and moist, and avoid alcohol-based mouthwash, smoking, hard or acidic foods, and alcohol.
Because the man’s blisters were so bad he had feeding a tube put up his nose so he didn’t have to eat with his mouth, and he was given the antibiotic doxycycline.
Both his lung infection and blisters on his mouth, eyes and penis cleared up after the antibiotic treatment.

Black hairy tongue is a temporary and harmless condition that makes the tongue turn dark and furry, the Mayo Clinic states.
The woman recovered within a month.
