MAFS’ Jamie, Doug: Trying to Conceive Became ‘Scientific’ After Miscarriages

Planning a pregnancy. Jamie Otis and Doug Hehner are trying to conceive their second child after suffering multiple miscarriages.

“It does become scientific,” Hehner, 35, told Us Weekly exclusively at A+E Networks’ Upfronts on Wednesday, March 27. “We don’t really schedule [sex], but we know when we’re fertile.”

Otis, 32, explained that she has an app on her phone to tell them when to try, which her husband wants to “hack into to make every day fertile.”

The Bachelor alum added: “It’s really funny. Sometimes I’ll be like, ‘OK, this is the day, peak fertility!’ and he’ll be like, ‘Oh, you’re going to have to woo me.’ I think that’s romantic in and of itself.”

The pair, who tied the knot on the first season of Married at First Sight, welcomed their daughter, Henley, in August 2017 after a miscarriage. Since the birth of their baby girl, they’ve suffered two more losses.

While the Wifey 101 author told Us that the process has been “really, really rough” and she and Hehner were just given permission to start trying again, they have concrete plans for conceiving.

“We’re celebrating five years [of marriage], so we’re going to go to a little island and just be secluded and make baby No. 2,” the New York City native said.

For now, the Married at First Sight stars are enjoying their time with their 19-month-old. “She loves to snuggle,” Otis said. “I feel like we have a really close bond, which I’m really thankful for, which I always wanted. I never had a close relationship with my mom, so my goal in life was to have a daughter one day and have that mother-daughter bond. I’m sure the teens are going to be different, I’m bracing myself for that, but right now she really loves me.”
