Meet Serena Williams' Granddaughter Qai Qai
Just sixteen months after giving birth to her adorable daughter Olympia, Serena Williams is already back on the tennis court proving why she’s the GOAT in her sport. And at the 2019 Australian Open, the tennis star is sharing the social media spotlight with another very special new family member: Williams’ beloved “granddaughter” Qai Qai.
Don’t worry, you didn’t somehow miss a few decades; it’s just the adorable doll that William’s daughter, Olympia, calls her own.
According to the Instagram bio of Qai Qai, who boasts over 88,000 followers, she’s Olympia’s daughter and best friend. While Williams did her thing on the court (aka crushed it), Qai Qai did a takeover the Women’s Tennis Association’s Instagram account and showed viewers around the Melbourne tennis complex. During the tour, she found her grandmother on the practice court and took a break to rest in the shade.
Qai Qai Williams is so famous that her grandmother Serena found herself answering questions from reporters about the doll in a post-match interview on Tuesday. Williams defeated Germany’s Tatjana Maria 6-0, 6-2 in her first match, but the tennis star seemed most excited to chat about Qai Qai.
“Qai Qai is a doll I got her,” Williams said, as reported by USA Today. “I wanted her to have a black doll. Growing up, I didn’t have that many opportunities to have black dolls. And I was just thinking, like, I want her first doll to be black. And her (Olympia) heritage, obviously she’s mixed, she’s Caucasian and black, but I feel like that was her first doll and I said her second doll would be Caucasian.”
If Williams wins the women’s singles tournament, it’ll be her 24th Grand Slam win. But regardless of what happens in Melbourne, she can rest assured that Olympia and Qai Qai will be cheering her on from the stands.
