Why Kim Kardashian and Kanye West's First Photo of Psalm Has Fans Worried

Uh oh! Kim Kardashian shared the first picture of her newborn son, Psalm, on Instagram on Friday, May 17, and the sweet shot has fans worried.

“Psalm West,” the Keeping Up With the Kardashians star, 38, captioned the Instagram reveal, featuring a text exchange with her husband, Kanye West. The rapper, 41, sent a dim photo of the baby boy sleeping, writing, “Beautiful Mother’s Day with the arrival of our fourth child. We are blessed beyond measure. We have everything we need.”

Many worried that the infant’s sleep set-up in the shot would increase his risk of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome, which is the death of a seemingly healthy baby in its sleep.

“Please please please go pay an overpriced ‘sleep consultant’ to get all that unnecessary padding, bumpers, and blankets out of your child’s crib so they are not at risk for SIDS.  I’ve tried and failed to resuscitate too many children that have died this way,” one Twitter user wrote. “Signed, an ER doctor.”

Another added: “1. Congrats! 2. Anyone else freaking out about all the blankets & bumpers?! American Academy of Pediatrics recommends keeping the crib free of blankets & pillows until baby is 12 months old, as these can create a suffocation hazard. @kanyewest Just looking out for a fellow dad.”

One social media user went on to point out how huge the Selfish author and the musician’s audience is, adding, “I really hope Kim and Kanye only used the cushion thingie for the pic. … Wish they had photographed wee Psalm lying flat and swaddled in an empty crib.”

The reality star and the Grammy winner welcomed their son on May 10, and he joined older siblings North, 5, Saint, 3, and Chicago, 16 months. “He’s here and he’s perfect!” Kardashian wrote on Twitter at the time. “He’s also Chicago’s twin lol. I’m sure he will change a lot but now he looks just like her.”

The couple tied the knot in 2014.
