Jennifer Aniston Created the Swiss Army Knife of Hair-Care Brands

It's not every day you roll out of bed, have your morning cup of coffee, and inspire a widespread hair trend… unless you're Jennifer Aniston, of course. Countless photos of her have been shown to hairstylists around the world throughout the past three decades, whether it's because someone wants "The Rachel" or just some well-placed blonde highlights. Although it might seem like a flex to have that power, Aniston says she feels the pressure for her hair to look its best "all the time."

It's that exact high-stress level of iconism, however, that makes her a perfect candidate to create her own hair-care brand — which is exactly what she's done. On September 8, LolaVie (named for "Lola," one of Aniston's nicknames) will make its debut with a singular product, the Glossing Detangler.

As Aniston tells Allure, this launch has been a long time coming. "We've been in development for almost five years," she explains. "I had been involved in another hair company years ago, and that's where I got the bug of getting to go behind the scenes of how you [choose] ingredients and the process of development and marketing and all of that."

The reason it took so long? She wanted every little detail — including the product's ingredients, the tall, rectangular bottle with minimal white and black detailing, and the brand messaging — to be absolutely perfect. The Glossing Detangler specifically needed to be the Swiss Army Knife of hair-care products. "I love a really good detangler because my hair has gone through so much thrashing," she says. Before developing LolaVie, Aniston could spend hours on her hair with numerous serums, creams, fragrances, and more to get the perfect result. The impetus behind the Glossing Detangler is to eliminate most of those steps. "I love for a product to have many jobs in one, so it has a heat protector and shine, and so it's time-efficient."

That it is; Aniston's at-home hair-care routine is now as bare-bones as it gets. "[My hair routine is] basically washing and conditioning it, putting the detangler on, brushing it through, putting it up in a towel for ten minutes, and then I either blow it out or let it dry naturally," she explains.

Specifically, the Glossing Detangler's formula contains plant-based ceramides, bamboo essence, and extracts from lemons and chia seeds. Cosmetic chemist Ginger King notes that, together, these ingredients, "help to replenish moisture, build a barrier to prevent water loss, strengthen hair, moisturize, provide antioxidation, and purify hair."

This won't be the only product LolaVie formulates, by the way — not by a long shot. Aniston has "a good couple of products that we're working on and have been working on." She can't say exactly what those products are, but she assures us that each one will be "bulletproof" in her eyes because of that aforementioned pressure to perform (and, by the sounds of it, because she's just a perfectionist by nature).

She knows a product is perfect when all of her friends, who have varying hair textures, give it their stamp of approval. "It was really fun to get reports back from my one girlfriend that has kinky hair, and my other girlfriend who has got stick-straight hair." Aniston's Glossing detangler has already been tried and tested by friends who have afros, color-treated hair with severe damage, men's hair, and plenty of other types, lengths, and textures. "It was very helpful over the years to get the feedback, and that's been a very key part of helping define what this [product] is and what it needs."

Each LolaVie product, by the way, will have its own unique moment to shine as it launches. "We're going to have a special launch for each one when they're ready; it'll be like little rollouts here and there."

While you impatiently wait on the edge of your seat for the rest of LolaVie's roster to debut (same), you'll have plenty of time to get familiar with the Glossing Detangler – which, for the record, softens hair almost instantly and smells like a field of lemon trees on a crisp spring morning. We shouldn't really be surprised, though. What else could we have expected from someone who's started multiple hair trends across multiple decades?

The LolaVie Glossing Detangler retails for $25 and is available starting September 8 from lolavie.com.
