Mother, 29, dies after battling ovarian cancer for five years

Heartbreak as mother who credited Kate Winslet for ‘saving her life’ by setting up a charity to raise £300,000 and help her become ‘cancer free’ loses her battle

A mother battling ovarian cancer who was helped in her quest to raise £300,000 by actress Kate Winslet has died.

Gemma Nuttall, 29, from Rossendale, Lancashire, has left behind her four-year-old daughter Penelope.

Tributes have flooded in for Ms Nuttall, who heartbroken family and friends have described as ‘amazing’ and ‘brave’.

Ms Nuttall initially turned down potentially life-saving cancer treatment because she was pregnant with Penelope and the drugs would have killed her baby.

But despite being given the all clear in February after surgery and chemotherapy, the cancer returned and Ms Nuttall was moved into a hospice earlier this month.

She passed away on Sunday, her mother Helen Sproate revealed on Facebook.
