Lisa Rinna’s Daughter Amelia Gets Real About Her Struggle With Anorexia
Lisa Rinna and her daughter Amelia Gray Hamlin are getting real. After the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star opened up about her 17-year-old’s struggle with anorexia on the Tuesday, June 4, episode of the Bravo reality show, the teenager took to Instagram to share her story.
“Tonight on the housewives you will see how my eating disorder affected myself and my family. There is a scene where I am EXTREMELY rude to my dad and the food he wants me to eat,” Amelia began a lengthy Instagram Story in reference to her getting so angry with her father, Harry Hamlin, that she flipped him the middle finger.
She continued: “During that time, one year ago — I was not in a good place at all. I may have looked like I was recovered, but I was most definitely not. Within the scene you will see me lashing out due to my fear of food. The person displayed in tonight’s episode is not the person I am. It was the person anorexia made me.”
Amelia went on to ask viewers to be kind and understand the reason she was “rude” to the Mad Men alum, 67. And just as she expected, many internet trolls slammed her for her actions and also bashed the former Days of Our Lives actress, 55.
“Sorry but I have the best mom in the whole entire world!!” Amelia responded to one critic. “Stop being so jealous! Hahaha!”
And things didn’t end there. After people pointed out that Amelia “doesn’t look anorexic,” the model took the opportunity to educate her followers about the eating disorder. “Sadly — I feel the need to remind people what anorexia looks like,” she wrote before sharing one photo of herself uber thin and another of her looking a little bit fuller. “And there is not just one type.”
She added: “In both photos I was struggling equally as much as the other. Please understand the illness before speaking on it.”
Amelia concluded her series of Stories by admitting that getting personal about her struggles was “harder” than she thought it would be. She also noted that she’s taking a step back from social media until the “hypocrites” stop criticizing her.
Rinna and Hamlin’s daughter first opened up about her battle with anorexia in a March 2018 Instagram post. On Tuesday night’s episode of the RHOBH, Rinna explained that she “can’t help” but blame herself for Amelia’s struggles.
“You know, it’s, like, ‘What did we do to f–k her up?’ Maybe we did something,” the actress, who is also mom of Delilah Belle, 20, said. “I don’t know. I just know that it’s really, really hard to watch Amelia be in pain.”
The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills airs on Bravo Tuesdays at 9 p.m. ET.
