Sasha Obama Just Hit a Major Milestone

They grow up so fast! She was only seven years old when her dad was elected president, but time flies and Sasha Obama just graduated high school. Naturally her proud parents, former first couple Barack and Michelle Obama and older sister Malia Obama, were in the audience to cheer on Sasha as she celebrated this exciting milestone and prepares for the next chapter of her life.

Sasha, who turned 18 earlier this week, graduated from Sidwell Friends School in Washington, D.C. and can be spotted in a photo posted by the school (she’s in the second row from the back, fourth from the left). The Instagram post was accompanied by a quote from the commencement speaker, Sheila Johnson: “Life has never been about you or about me. Life and all that matters within it has always been about us.”

According to US Weekly, Sasha will start her freshman year at University of Michigan in the fall. Former Vice President and 2020 contender Joe Biden was also at the graduation ceremony to celebrate his granddaughter Maisy, who was in Sasha’s class at Sidwell.

It’s been a busy month for the Obamas — Sasha attended prom wearing a gorgeous black dress and social media users everywhere went wild over the rare photos of the teen. Although both Barack and Michelle Obama have kept us updated on their professional projects, they’ve continued to maintain their privacy when it comes to their two daughters. During their time in the White House the couple did their best to give Malia and Sasha a normal upbringing and they’ve maintained this practice in the years since.

The Obamas didn’t publicly comment on Sasha’s graduation from Sidwell, but it’s safe to assume they’re proud of their youngest daughter for hitting this milestone. For our part, we can’t wait to see what the future holds for Sasha.
