Lady Gaga’s Makeup at Joe Biden's Inauguration Will Go Down In History

If you have logged on to basically any social media platform today, you would be aware that it is an incredibly important day in the history of the United States. Not only was Joe Biden sworn in as the 46th President of the country, but Kamala Harris became the first woman, the first black person and the first person of South Asian descent elected to the vice-presidency.

A momentous occasion as such fittingly came with a slew of celebrity appearances: hosted by Tom Hanks himself, performances were held by superstar Democrat boosters Jon Bon Jovi, Bruce Springsteen, singer/pianist John Legend, the Foo Fighters, Katy Perry and Justin Timberlake.

But it was Lady Gaga who took the stage and dazzled the nation with not only her moving performance of the national anthem, but her entire ensemble, too: wearing a custom Schiaparelli Couture ball gown, accented by a large gold dove pin (an emblem of peace).

While her outfit was one for the books, it was her ornamental beauty look that will go down in history alongside it.

Gaga’s long platinum locks where braided with a black ribbon into a pair of milkmaid braids, softened with a few wisps pulled out in the front. At the back, a pair of red poppies were pinned perfectly in place as another nod to a peaceful future. Yet it was her deep crimson lip, hidden at times under a mask of course, that completed the look – a swipe of bold red lipstick has long stood as a timeless symbol of empowerment for women.

“While her makeup was classic and romantic, with the perfect shade of red lipstick, which felt appropriate for such a vibrant day, the rest of her makeup was soft and luminous,” Sarah Tanno, Gaga’s longtime makeup artist, told Vogue.

She revealed to the magazine that Gaga’s lips were done with Haus Laboratories Le Monster Matte lip crayon in warm red 1950, her eyes were shaded with a wash of tawny pigment from The Fame palette, lashes enhanced with swipes of Marc Jacobs Beauty’s Velvet Noir mascara and cheeks were contoured with her Heat Spell bronzer in Desert and Head Rush blush in Flirt.

One for the books indeed.
